Posted on Wed, 25 Nov 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with h pylori by blood test in August because I had diarrhea. After 2 weeks of antibiotics I started feeling better. Towards the end of the treatment I had an yeast infection and I started To feel a build up in my throat and a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Now it's October and I still feel something stuck in my throat and itchy throat in the morning. A doctor I visited said I had nasal dripping and possible acid reflux and it should go away. I'm not sure but I feel swelling under my throat.

Brief Answer:
GERD/Candida overgrowth......

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!

I read carefully all your concerns and I understood your query.

You are reporting to have feeling that something is stacked in your throat. These symptoms may be related with:
-acid reflux (GERD)
-upper GI Candida overgrowth after antibiotic treatment.

If you were my treating doctor I would recommend doing:
- upper endoscopy
- throat swab for fungal infection test

Meantime I suggest to change lifestyle like:
- Eat often and small amount of meal
- Don't lay down before 3-4 hours after meal
- use two pillows when you lay down
- avoid spicy ,chilly and fatty foods
- avoid coffee smoking and alcohol
- avoid very hot drinks or foods
- increase physical activity
- avoid unnecessary stress
- start to use PPI's like prilosec OTC to decrease stomach acid production.
If throat swab test result shows fungal infection than you should start anti fungal treatment.
Hope it was helpful to you!

Thank you dr. I made another appointment. Would you recommend seeing a specialist at this point?

H pylori test came back negative but my stomach still feels upset when i eat certain things. Could i have develop an ulcer or gastritis? And can i have GERD and gastritis at the same time? I'm trying to understand the throat and stomach connection. What are the 2 enlarge balls i feel under my throat?

I have some test results for thyroid, blood count and other test results for a physical i had. Would that help to show you?

Thank you. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Please follow the suggestions below

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You are reproting that H.Pylori is negative, but this dosen't rule out gastritis or stomach ulcer.

You can have at the same time gastritis and GERD.

At your situation I would recommend to consult a gastroenterologist doctor.
Inflammations of the throat may be related with GERD and not with gastritis.

With reagrds to your test reports please can you upload them to me , so I can check them by myself.

Wish you all the best.

Here are my test results. I'm still trying to get in touch with my dr. to get a referral for a specialist. I forgot to mention I've been having headaches and tension on my neck for no apparent reason. Not sure if this is related to the throat.

Please let me know if there is any indication for GERD and/or gastritis.

Thank you for your reply.

Best, XXXXXXX XXXX

Hi and thank you for giving more of your medical data.
I review all your medical reports and I noticed :

1. You have an increased level of prolactin. This result is normal in pregnancy, after childbirth and while mother nursing.
On the other hand high prolactin level can interfere with other hormones like estrogen and progesterone. It can also lead to irregular or missed periods and stop ovulation. This explain a part of your symptoms.

2. You have mildly elevated triglycerides level . I suggest to have a healthy diet and increase physical activity.

3. All exams that you have done there is nothing that can diagnose gastritis or GERd. The only test that can diagnose them is upper endoscopy.

4. At the end I suggest to do abdominal ultrasound and pelvic ultrasound to rule out ovarian cists that can explain abdominal pain.

5. with regards to headache it is not related with GERD or gastritis. Please check your blood pressure and try to avoid stress.

wish you all the best!
