Suggest Treatment For Female Pattern Hair Loss

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Sep 2017
Question: Hi. I have female pattern hair loss. Demodex mites. Non scarring. They say it is not alopecia. I am taking spironolactin. I had two rounds of ivermectin within two weeks. My hair fallout is excessive. The amount of hair I would get out of cleaning my brush monthly is the amount of fallout daily the fallout has not stopped. The Dr has prescribed fenastride. That is for males only the internet says. I am concerned I will be bald son. Does that course of action sound normal? I am also using Rogaine. The dermatologist did not know what the ingredients were for nioxin. She did not have any other remedies tor the mites. I have been using tea tree oil shampoo. It feels like my scalp is being stung. The Dr did prescribed a shampoo for inflammation. I want to know if this course of action is good or what else I can be doing thank you. All of my blood work is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
I would like to know whether microscopy was done to diagnose demodex folliculitis or it was a clinical diagnosis?
If possible upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and better way of management.
I can comment upon the course of management after seeing the photograph.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Use minoxidil, Finasteride not advisable

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the photograph.
You have developed female pattern baldness.
Finasteride might not help you.
You need to take Biotin tablets daily and apply 5 % minoxidil lotion twice daily for 6 month .
This combination works well.
You can use ketoconazole shampoo to control dandruff.
You can continue with rest of the medication.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. What should I do to help stop the fallout? Biotin and minoxidol is for hair growth. How do I kill the mites?

Also. Are demodex mites contagious?

Brief Answer:
Use ketoconazole shampoo

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
You have already taken ivermectin for demodex.
Keep using ketoconazole shampoo thrice a week.
This will take care of demodex.
The contagiousity is low but it's better to keep separate bath towel.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
