Suggest Treatment For Fever And Nasal Discharge While On Augmentin

Doctor said if little or no improvement by Monday I may have MERSA and will need additional script for a sulpha drug.
The nasal discharge is still yellow ( less so and no orange!) and no longer smells, but I feel quite blah. More so than before the augmentin. I slept most of yesterday, and all night. Appetite normal.
This infection stems from dental implant surgery, sinus lift and bone grafting.
Sincerely XXXXXXX Connolly
Steam inhalation would help.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I would also insist you to get a blood count done. It would help in evaluating whether you have a chest infection and whether antibiotics would help. It would also help in understanding the allergic component that is often associated. If the WBC count is not raised and if there is no relative neutrophilia it would inidcate the absence of a bacterial infection and therefore antibiotics are unlikely to help anyway. Steam inhalaion would provide relief. Water in form of vapor would reach deep inside and would help in diluting the thickened mucus.
Please note that thick greenish or yellowish nasal discharge does not indicate infection. It is likely to be due to the dead cells of the nasal mucosa. Steam inhalation would help.
Let me know if you are seeking any specific guidance from me. I am eager to help.

Thanks for the update. Clindamycin is a good medicine and I would hope that you get relief from its use. Do not hesitate to write back if you have any further queries.
