Question: my daughter 13 had a fever, white patches on her throat. During the same time she also complain that her vagina was hurting her. She has two white small ulcers on the labia. Doctor told me that she tested positive for Strep G. Doctor said it did not need to be treated. Is this correct? Why test for G if you don't need to treat?

Brief Answer:
We do not treat it since the body can manage it on its own

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I understand your concerns. Let me mention that our body has a trillion bacteria and other microscopic organisms in it. Needless to say that our body knows how to deal with bacteria. The question of external intervention comes only if it is something that the body is not capable of. Streptococcal sore throat (including patches) is common and Group G is one among the bacteria that may cause it. Irrespective of the use of antibiotics the infection would get controlled in 5-7 days. In other words, treatment does not offer any added advantage. Hence we do not try to treat Strep G infection and your doctor has been correct in saying that.

I do not think that the labial ulcers are related. But your doctor would be in a better position to comment upon it.

Hope that my explanation makes sense.

Regards
