Brief Answer:
Anti-allergic medication, steam inhalation, gargle

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. An anti-allergic medication (such as Cetirizine 10 mg or Allegra/fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for 3 days), anti-inflammatory (such as Crocin/paracetamol), a medicated oral rinse (such as Betadine) and regular steam inhalation should give her symptomatic relief.

2. Most colds are viral, hence antibiotics are prescribed only if the fever persists due to secondary bacterial infection.

3. The dry throat and poking sensation may be due to the cold, viral infection, post nasal drip, dehydration, acid -reflux, mouth breathing and so on. Hence the treatment may vary. for example, anti-inflammatory drugs can increase the acid reflux and worsen the pain.

4. Household remedies such as rest, warm fluids, soups, tulsi tea, honey based mixtures, avoiding cold, spicy, sour foods and keeping warm are helpful.

5. If the symptoms persists, get her examined by a physician who can prescribe further medication or blood tests if necessary.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
