Suggest Treatment For Fever In An Infant
Question: Hello doctor, my newborn is 3 weeks old and he is running a fever of 100.5 degrees celsius. Should I be worried?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. The raised temperature could be due to over-wrapping. I would insist you to loosen up the clothing and to expose him. If the temperature comes down, nothing further needs to be done. However, if the temperature still remains raised he would need to be given paracetamol drops when the temperature is elevated. If the child is otherwise active and feeding well you need not worry but if the child becomes lethargic, does not feed well or has a decreased passage of urine, you would need to take him to a doctor and get him evaluated.
Let me know if I could help further.
Regards
