Suggest Treatment For Fever While Using Ear Drops For Ear Cold In A Child

Question: Hello my daughter is 8 months old. She has fever from yeaterday. We r giving paracetomal drop every 6 hrs prescribed by doc. Also doc gave us an ear drop which we r giving as doc said there is ear cold. Last night was bad. Today also temp is coming & going whenever i give paracetomal.
Just wanted to know how long will this last or should we take some other medicine.

Hi,

Usually it takes up to 48 hours in case of viral infection to settle fever and other symptoms. If fever persists beyond 48 hours then the chances of bacterial infection is quite high and an antibiotic like Cefixime needs to be given.

Continue giving paracetamol drops. If fever persists then you should get the child re-examined by a doctor as child may need antibiotics based on examination.

Take some precautions to prevent cold in the child like use diapers at night, avoid cold water, use warm clothes at night.

I think that you should wait for 24 hours and if child is not well completely then you should get her examined once more by a doctor.

If there are symptoms like decreased feeding, increased rate of breathing, decreased urine output then get the child immediately examined by doctor.
