My son had a really bad ear infection. He took two different courses of antibiotics to get rid of the infection, still left with pain and discomfort we went back to the Dr who then had him take a treatment of Cortisporin Ear drops to ease inflamation. Now there s a scab/perhaps wax build up and/or both. I can see it when I look into his ear. He says it s okay and the Dr said it was normal and would most likely fall out. That was a week ago and it s still there. I have put warmed oil drops in it and they haven t had any affect and now I think it s bothering him again?? He doesn t want to say as he doesn t want another trip to the Dr s! So...what to do now? Wait? If so, how long? Should I continue the warm oil drops at night (garlic/mulin mix)? Should we see an ENT? HELP! thanks m-
The first and foremost thing to do would have been to send the pus from the ear for gram staining, culture and sensitivity. The antibiotics given as per the report are more effective. Do not instil anything in ears as these do not work much and wrong medications can cause more problems like fungus development and so on. Consult an ENT for further evaluation, cleaning if required, use another antibiotic along with anti-inflammatory and decongestant medicines.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
