Suggest Treatment For Fluid Formation In Lungs Due To Low EF Value

Question: My father, 65 years old, has the first cardaic arrest 15 years ago, post which he underwent angioplasty. Though on several medicines he was doing well for almost a decade alongwith a tough job involving travel, field work etc...A couple of years ago, he had calcium deposits in the arteries, which I again was removed surgically. A year ago, he was diagonosed with some fluid formation (I am not sure about the medical specifics) as a result of which he feels restless at times and is short of breath(even though he is still working and travels a lot). By a certain doctor, he was advised to slow down and take as much rest as possible, but another cardiologist says it is not so bad. Attached are his reports. Please advise on the status of his heart.

Brief Answer:
He needs to slow down slightly but not completely resting.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P

I went through your query and the report . The report is showing that his cardiac function is low ( EF = 30% ) . Because of low EF his lungs can get filled with water and that is what has happened to him .

I feel he needs medications to remove the fluid from his lungs . These medications are called Diuretic . He is getting a Diuretic called Dytor but it needs to be increased .

Also I would recommend a repeat Angiogram to check the condition of his Heart vessels .

There is no need to take complete rest but yes slight reduction in his activities for 1-2 weeks is good and later he can restart slowly his usual physical activities.

Also ask your cardiologist for a medicine called Carnitor . This will give some benefit to the heart.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
