Suggest Treatment For Fluid Retention Problem Due To Hypothyroidism
Need more details.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I can understand your concern.
Since when are you having bags under eyes and swelling of hands (Edema) or legs?
When did you start taking thyronorm and what is the dosage medication?
Have you done any blood tests recently like hemoglobin or repeated thyoroid test or any other tests? If yes kindly upload reports.
Do you have any history of allergy?
Yes, hypothyroidism is one possibility of edema and weight gain.
Other possibilities like anemia or kidney or heat problems or dehydration can cause edema.
Do you have any medical history other than hypothyroidism?
May I know your height and weight?
In your case I feel it is mostly due to hypothyroidism or low hemoglobin levels.
I suggest drink plenty of water.
Elevation of head ends while you lie down.
Get enough sleep.
Kindly get back to me with details.
Thank you.
Swelling under eyes and in fingers have been a problem since 3-4 years. It eased out a bit when I was detected with Thyroid and started my medication. I got my blood test done about 1.5 months ago - the test was not apt (attached the report) and hence my thyronorm dosage was increased from 50mg everyday to 50 and 75 mg alternatively. I got my heamoglobin test done some 3-4 months back and got a count of 11 (i don't have the report as of now). I don't have any allergies but got a scanty bleeding problem about 4 months back. I got my ultrasound done and was on medication (Ovanac plus twice everyday) for 4 months. Doctor said that it was a hormonal imbalance due to my thyroid problem and I that I should always monitor my thyroid levels. I was thinking of getting my Thyroid test done after a week (as doctor prescribed to repeat the test after 2 months). Not sure, if I should get it done early (like tomorrow).
My height is 5 feet 3 inches and my current weight is 61. My weight jumped from 57 to 61 in last 2 months though i maintain a healthy eating and exercise regularly. I do drink a lot of water too.. worried :(
Repeat test after one week.

Hello XXXXXXX
I have gone through your history.
I suggest you repeat thyroid test after one week.
If you are taking thyronorm since 3 years and your high tsh level in last report indicates your tsh was not controlled by 50 mcg thyronorm hence your doctor increased dosage of medication in last month. It will take time to reduce your symptoms.
I suggest you wait for one more week and get test done. Still if will be high then consult your doctor to increase dosage of medication to 100mcg or change your dosage to regular 75mcg.
I appreciate that you are maintaining your diet and doing physical exercises.
Continue your exercises and do brisk exercise 30 minutes a day. It will help you to reduce your tsh level and regularize your menstrual periods as well.
Yes as you’re said irregular periods or scanty bleeding due to thyroid and hormonal imbalance.
According to your height and weight you are not over weight hence need not worry.
Once your tsh starts decrease your symptoms will start resolve.
If you have any queries I will be happy to help you.
Thank you.
