Question: hello. i am XXXX, 30 years old. I had a archanoid cyst of 11 cm long & 1.5 cm wide in my spine. I dont know the exact location but some L1/L5 or D2 level. According to the MRI & a follow up with the doc, the cyst was not indenting the spinal chord but its presence was creating pressure on the spinal chord. Doctor said that it must be present since birth as i also recalled that i use to fall a lot while running in my school days. Due to this cyst i had foot drop in my left leg & also some sensory loss. Also there was some muscle wasting of calf. So, i had under gone a spinal surgery to remove the cyst, which was successfully removed. It is almost 18 months since surgery. I have regained considerable size of the calf but there is no change in my foot drop. Although the calf size improvement is a proof that the surgery was successful. But still there is no progress in foot drop.
So, my question to you guys is, is there any solution for the foot drop? is the nerve damage reversible?
at least can it be partially improved if not totally?
Thank you. Expecting a positive reply
Brief Answer:
Try acupressure before going for surgery

HI XXXXXXX
It is good to know that you have undergone a successful surgery with improvement.
Foot Drop is a nasty problem to treat.
Nerve damage of more than 9 months is irreversible.
As you are in Pune you must have taken at least a few consultations with the reputed Orthopedic and Neuro Surgeons. I would like to know what they have suggested you.
I hope by this time you must have undergone the nerve conduction studies and what are the results.
The probable solution is tendon transfer or fixation of ankle.
I have seen very good results in some patients with acupressure and fortunately you have got a very reputed and most well trained Doctor in Pune.
I would advise you to try Acupressure before any surgery.
With the present therapy you will have a improvement for sure.
Doctors haven't suggested anything other than physiotherapy. Physiotherapy helps me but only when I am at it. The moment I take a break it starts going back to what it is. So kindly suggest me a accupressure specialist if you know any in pune. I would like to give it a try.
Brief Answer:
Acupressure.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Please continue physiotherapy as it does help to maintain the muscle tone and mobility of the joints and morale too. You can use ankle splints to maintain dorsiflexion.
There is Dr C R Desai, a pioneer in acupressure in Pune. You can meet him in Yerwada, opposite Kiwalkar Hospital. You surely will get a great benefit.
