Question: Hello,

My baby 1.9 yr is suffering from cough from last 10 days and I was giving her ambrodil as prescribed by doctor. Again from last 2 days she is having cough and not able to sleep at night and doctor said there is not much cough in chest. And prescribed zocef 125 mg antibiotic, and brozeet L's and relent+.

Please suggest if any of these medicine is containing steroids.

Also today from blood test report its found her esiophils count is 13% which should be 1-6% for normal count.

Kindly suggest

Brief Answer:
May be wheeze

Detailed Answer:
Hi... By what you quote... Cough going on so long could as well be wheeze. Your pediatrician was right in starting an antibiotic as its long duration. But hope a blood culture was done.

Coming to your queries -
1. None of these medicines contain steroids.
2. The eosinophils count is definitely higher and it is suggestive of an allergy in the body. As I was mentioning in my brief answer, wheezing is a sign of allergy.

If you have any further queries, kindly get back.

Thanks doctor.

Could you please suggest some permanent treatment to reduce eisinophils count and what are the causes which increases it.

I have started antibiotics yesterday only and still she was not able to sleep last night.

Please suggest some permanent treatment as I am afraid that my baby will have it for long time.

Brief Answer:
Eosinophilia is not a disease-its a manifestation

Detailed Answer:
HI...
I want to clarify you something. High eosinophils in the blood (eosinophilia) is not a disease by itself to offer a cure. It is a manifestation of allergy which is there in the body ...or we can aptly put it like an evidence of allergy in the body.

To give you an example- it is like fever in typhoid and asking for cure for fever. Once typhoid is cured, fever automatically settles.

But unfortunately allergy cannot be cured but can be 100% controlled which will bring down the eosinophil count in the blood. This is the solution for this problem right now. But I am afraid it is not a permanent solution. Allergy has a tendency to recur in future due to climatic changes and exposure to allergens.

Coming to your query about causes which increase eosinophils -
1. Dust
2. Cobwebs
3. Cold
4. Chill weather5. Seasonal changes
5. Cockroaches at home
6. Dust mites
These are only to give you an example. The list is exhaustive, nonetheless.

To decrease eosinophils now, I suggest you use Banocide (Diethylcarbamazine). This is a prescription drug and I suggest you approach your pediatrician for the prescription and dosing schedule.

I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.
