Suggest Treatment For Frequent Urination While On Furosemide
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome on HCM!
Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that increased urine passing during the night hours may be related to Furosemide intake (if Furosemide administration is done in the evening hours or before falling asleep), as well as other alternative causes (like a concomitant urinary tract infection/inflammation;diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension; certain renal diseases, drinking excess fluids in the evening hours, etc.).
So, coming to this point, the first measure to undertake would be to adjust the time of Furosemide intake; it is recommended taking Furosemide in the morning hours (7 - 8 AM); avoiding that way the excessive diuresis during the night (as the action duration of Furosemide lasts 6 - 8 hours).
In addition, it is necessary to review the real need of taking daily Furosemide, considering special attention to the primary health disorder (a cardiac, renal disorder, hypertension, etc.), as it may be the real clue of this abnormal night diuresis.
In this regard, some medical tests should be done:
- cardiac ultrasound,
- complete blood count,
- complete urine test,
- microbiological urine culture,
- BUN & creatinine,
- urinary tract ultrasound,
- blood electrolytes level,
- fasting blood glucose,
- glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C)
Once the exact etiological cause is identified, it would be more easy to properly address this issue.
You need to discuss with your attending physician on the above mentioned issues.
In case of any further uncertainties, feel free to ask me again.
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
