Suggest Treatment For Gall Stones, Enlarged Spleen And Low Platelet Count

Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 35 year old female. Last year I felt unwell during the summer, I actually had pain in the right side. Which my dr sent me for a sonogram/ultrasound, at that point I had a few gallstones and what he noticed was a slightly/borderline enlarged spleen. He didnt think any of this ...but at that time as well my platelets were 124. I WAS concerned he was not. My blood work was up and down with the platelets. I decided to follow up in Oct, turned out he screwed by not doing the correct sonogram, they ignored my spleen and looked at my kidneys which were fine, no mass, no findings no enlarged liver. Just the spleen. Fast forward April 28th 2015. I had more blood work done and another sonogram, now my spleen is 13.2 centimeters. My glands in my neck are swollen on one side. Blood work is now normal. Platelets kicked in gear and are now 160, only thing was my MVC is 32.1

I keep saying Hoskgins Lymphona. I go for a CT scan next thurs. I woke up today under my chin felt heavy AND ALL ( I have hypothyroidism sine I was 15 - not currently on meds) factor?

thanks for any insight.

Brief Answer:
Presence of XXXXXXX Sternberg cells will indicate Hodgkin's lymphoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your uploaded report

Since your platelets are low and you are having an enlarged spleen and the glands in your neck are swollen i would advise you to do a biopsy test from the enlarged neck gland to rule out hodgkins lymphoma

In the biopsy test a small sample of the enlarged lymph node in your neck will be taken with help of a fine needle and it will be tested in the laboratory

A diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma can be made if abnormal Reed-Sternberg cells are found within the lymph node

my platelets as of Friday are 160, lymphs are only shown as swollen on ultrasound. Its not large where you see or barely feel.

Would a CT help?

The hematologist wants to do a CT, then MRI. If those are negative then bone marrow. As I have no obvious mass / etc.

Brief Answer:
CT scan will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Your platelets currently are under normal range

Yes a CT scan will help

The enlarged lymph nodes could be due to an infection

I would advise you to take a week course of antibiotic with your doctors advise

If after 1 week the lymph nodes enlargement stil persist then biopsy has to be done to rule out malignancy

If you have no more clarifications then please rate the answer and close the thread
