Suggest Treatment For Gallstones

Posted on Tue, 27 May 2014
Question: I have gallstones with no gallbladder inflamation should I be concerned? I have a niggling pain in in my sternum region (about 3/10) but most of the pain I do experience is in my pelvis region near my hip (about a 5/10) I have been experiencing a lot of gas lately and indigestion and I do get some relief when going to the toilet or passing gas. The pain has been constant for a few weeks now and I am concerned about the gallstones which have been there for atleast 6 months that I know of and not caused any symptoms. I have not had a gallstone attack as such but I am concerned these may be signs of an attack occurring soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to acid peptic disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms,

There is absolutely no reason to be worried about co-incidentally diagnosed gall stones. None of the symptoms described by you are attributable to gallstones or are indication of gallstone related symptoms occuring in near future. If Diabetis Mellitus have been ruled out galls stones are unlikely to cause any symptoms in future.
Lets now analyse the possible cause for your symptoms
1. Sternal pain especially if it has the character of burning sensation is likely to be due to reflux oesophagitis from reflux of acidic contents of stomach into the oesophagus. It would also explain the indigestion and gas like sensation you are facing
2. Decreased intake of fiber and water: Less fibre in the diet may predispose to excessive gas formation.

I would suggest you the following which will provide you the much needed relief

1. Antacid: Combination Of Pantoprozole ( Proton pump inhibitor whicch suppresses gastric acid secretion) and Domperidone ( promotes motility of stomach) will help relieve sternal pain and indigestion
2. Liquid antacid: Liquid antacid containing Simethicone ( anti flatulent ) which will be available over the counter will be beneficial.

I would also suggest you the following lifestyle modification which will go a long way in helping and preventing recurrence

1. High Fiber diet: Two serving of vegetable salad and two servings of fruit will provide the quota for daily fibre requirement.
2. Ensure good intake of water: 2-3 liter a day
3. Avoid caffeinated beverages/ carbonated beverages
4. Avoid alcohol
5. Avoid spicy/oily food
6. Avoid sleeping immediately after meals

I am quite sure it will benefit you
