Brief Answer:
40mg is enough for one day

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the usual omeprazole dosage is 20mg per day. In some cases 40mg can be used. More than 40mg are only used in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome which causes several ulcers on the stomach and duodenum.

So the answer is that you'd better avoid the extra 40mg because they are not supposed to help more.
If treatment against acidity won't help then an endoscopy would be required to determine the cause of the symptoms. If nothing can be found in the endoscopy then checking the gallbladder also (with an ultrasound scan) can be helpful.

Gastritis is not supposed to cause any symptoms. Ulcers cause symptoms.

If you want an immediate relief for acid-related pain then taking any antacid may help.

I hope I've helped! Contact me again, if you require more information.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
40mg is enough

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

if the diagnosis is certain then 40mg per day is enough. Just remember to take it for at least a month to give some time to the potential lesion to heal.

Kind Regards!
