Suggest Treatment For Glandular Fever

Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: Hi,

My 19 year old son was diagnosed with glandular fever on 16 March 2015. He is going to China - specifically, Shanghai and Beijing, for 4 weeks at the end of XXXXXXX 2015 and has been told he needs the hepatitis vaccine. At present, he is booked in for the first vaccination next week and the second in 6 months' time. I'm concerned that next week is too soon, given his current illness. Please can you advise?
I've scoured the internet but can't find anything and the practice nurse at my GP's surgery didn't seem to engage with it when asked about it .
Many thanks for your assistance.

Thanks for posting your query.

See the basic concept for vaccination is the earlier the vaccination sooner the protection. He has been advised vaccine as there is high risk of getting Hepatitis for him in China . For a person who has recently suffered from Glandular fever , if he gets infected with Hepatitis it shall cause more strain on his liver .

Also by getting Hepatitis vaccine now it will not cause any significant problems to him .

So my recommendation is he can get his vaccine next week itself.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask .

Regards.
