Suggest Treatment For Glaucoma And Cataract In Both Eyes

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: I was diagnosed with glaucoma in both eyes three months ago. The doctor prescribed drops to take once a day in the evening. I also have cataracts in both eyes (early stages). Can surgery correct both conditions? I also believe I have a circulatory problem because I have episodes of passing out. I have been feeling dizzy every day and have migraines and tension headaches. I have recently had a carotid ultrasound and waiting for the results. Is there any relation with the glaucoma (damage to my optic nerve) and poor circulation and not getting enough oxygen to my brain?

Brief Answer:
Combined surgery is required for early stages.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having glaucoma and early cataract in both the eyes.
Surgery can correct both the conditions. But for early stages of glaucoma surgery is not required and it can be treated by medical treatment in the form of antiglaucoma drugs administered as eye drops. Since glaucoma surgery comes with complications it is better to avoid glaucoma surgery. Glaucoma surgery is indicated in patients in whom medical treatment fails to treat glaucoma.
For cataract you can undergo surgery depending on the diminution of vision caused by cataract.

Poor circulation, vascular diseases, migraines are related with a specific type of glaucoma called as normal tension glaucoma. Hence if you are having these problems you need to undergo evaluation to rule out normal tension glaucoma.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
