Suggest Treatment For Glaucona

Question: My sister went to the eye doctor ..her pressures are at 28. Now there are two of us in the immediate family with high pressures..how common is that..does this mean we will get glaucoma. Or could it be that both of us just have thicker corneas that make our readings high? She has been stressed lately and has a new job that uses her eyes on the computer for 8 plus hours a day..would that play a role? She has a very low rx not like me!I am still having trouble understanding staphyloma ..I am a high minus..could you describe it for me In detail thanks!!
Brief Answer:
Glaucoma suspect
Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
A pressure of 28 needs close observation and as a primary line of investigation gonioscopy, and field analysis. This pressure should be contrlled by medication.
Glaucoma in general population occurs in 1%of cases and in blood relatives of glaucoma patients it may be present in 22%of population. This is a very high incidence.
In high myopia the recorded pressure is always less than actual due to low scleral rigidity, which is abolished by reading of applanation tonometery.
Follow your doctors instructions properly and have regular follow ups.

What does that mean when you say the pressure is always less than actual due to low schleral rigidity..which is abolished...please explain. Could you also explain posterior staphyloma ..i am having trouble understanding this condition and the severity of it. Can the condtion take away my sight.? My visual field was good but does it take a long time for damage to show up on a visual field test. Could the doc be missing the glaucoma diagnosis?

Dear XXXXXXX
thanks for getting back to me
what i mean by the statement of scleral rigidity is that cases of myopia have less rigid eye ball that is the reason why staphyloma occurred, there the pressure measurement is less than actual. The way to go about it is by aplanation tonometery, which gives accurate pressure reading.
Staphyloma in your case is stable and will not cause any further deterioration, as the age is advanced.
