Suggest Treatment For Gum Infection And Painful Discomfort While Eating

Question: Three years, six dentists, lots of money and unnecessary trauma to my mouth and my ORIGINAL symptom is still present. EVERY time I eat or drink anything the space between two teeth is aggravated and so uncomfortable that I can't keep my tongue off it and have to get up and go rinse and put some soothing gel on the space. It immediately but very temporarily settles down, briefly. This is really taking away from my quality of life and enjoyment of meals. The last appointment I was having a gold crown put on to replace a ceramic one ( which I didn't need as this was the problem the crowns were attempting to solve) the dentist took off the temporary and left the room for a minute. I put my tongue in this space that has been wrecking havoc on my life and felt a sizable, rough " thing" under the crown. When the dentist came back I asked about it and he said it was an ulcer. I was pleased because FINALLY someone found something and not pleased because he was the third dentist to have this view under the crown in the past three years and NO one else mentioned it. He gave me an injection and a sample of an ointment. The ointment helps but only briefly. I have read everything online I can find and nothing sounds like what this is. I am at my wits end. All I can find are ulcers usually go away in 10 days on their own or if they don't see your dentist as it could be cancer. I have seen many dentists, should be low risk for cancer AND if it were cancer after three years I think I would be dead. PLEASE if anyone has any idea of suggestions please let me know. It is EVERY bite or sip of anything. It is ruining my life. Even when not eating, it needs the jell every hour or so and all night.

Brief Answer:
improper contact between teeth, prosthodontist consultation

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the gap between the teeth is concerned, it can be because of the improper contacts created while preparing the artificial crowns. Whenever there is improper contacts between the teeth, the food gets lodged in between teeth and causes irritation and may result in gum infection.
For your kind information, ulcer cannot occur below the crown. The roughness what you felt is because of the cut surface of the tooth.
Nothing to be panic, Your problem can be solved by giving a proper contact between the crown and the adjacent teeth. So consult a good prosthodontist and get it evaluated.
These are the possible causes, diagnosis and treatment plan based on the description of the problem by yourself. If you can upload the images of the teeth which are in problem, i can give you exact diagnosis and treatment plan.
I hope i have answered your query. If any queries are there reply me back. Take care.

Hello
There have been three different crowns on this tooth over two years in attempt to fix this- two ceramic and now gold. The symptoms have remained the same.
Dentist saw an "ulcer" in this spot at last visit before putting crown on.
Now, there are tiny white spots under my tongue and in back of throat.
My tonsils have been out for many years.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
improper crowns, decayed adjacent teeth, radiograph

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.

Yes mouth ulcers that are benign usually resolves in a week or two. However recurrence is not uncommon. It occurs if the causes persists. In your case, the gap between the teeth which was probably created secondaryily to improperly prepared crown may be leading to food getting lodge and subsequent ulcers. It is very unusual for cancerous ulcer not to grow over the last 3 years. Therefore I wouldn't be worried about cancers yet.

Further sometimes in an attempt to remove these food debris with the help of finger or tooth pick or brush may result in trauma to gum and result in ulcer. Similarly the other possible cause of food lodgement can be a decay in the adjacent tooth or bone loss around the teeth where the crowns have been placed.

It would be a good idea to have radiograph done to check the status of the Crown and the bone support. This can be done at your dentist's office.

Lastly you might have visited many dentist but if the work has not been done properly then the problem will never solve. So consult a good prosthodontist and get it evaluated. If you have any of the radiograph's done recently, please upload it here.

I hope I have answered your query. Take care
