Suggest Treatment For Hallucinations In An Elderly Person
He used to go outside home at any unappropriate time.
He used to say - he is called from someone.
Once he said in night - let me go outside or let that man come inside who is standing outside.
Now I feel like he is coming out of confusion.
So now when he go outside he looks around himself and them come back. And tell us that there is no one around him so he does not need to go.
He also said that now he don't find people who used to knock at door and who were around him all the time.
So I want to understand what was it. Was it hallucination?
And now what we can do get him out of his delusional memory? Because he has become habitual of whatever people he was seeing.
Nowadays he is sleeping mostly .
Hallucinations.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns for your father.
From your other discussions with other doctors, I have realized that your father was under alcohol deaddiction treatment.
The symptoms which you have mentioned are most probably hallucinations. It could be a part of Wernicke's Korsakoff's syndrome. Or it could be due to alcoholic hallucinosis.
It is a good sign that the confusion is resolving now.
The simplest and only way to get him out of delusional memory is to give him reassurances. Reassure him that it was just a part of his alcohol withdrawal. Give him evidence for the reality. Don't argue but present the truth before him. Slowly, he will get in touch with reality.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
