Suggest Treatment For Hand And Painful Bump On The Fingers

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I just noticed a bump on the left hand middle finger above the second knuckle on the side closest to the tip of the finger. It is hard and tender about 1/4 inch long and protrudes about 1mm?? I vaguely remember a thorn prick when I was removing plants from the garden area -but not certain that is what it is from. ?? Could it be a bone spur? I also remember knocking my hand against my desk when walking...

Brief Answer:
May be folliculitis, hematoma or abscess

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
It is difficult to comment without examination, so I would suggest you to upload the pictures of it. So that I can provide you with specific advice.
Based on the information I feel it might be folliculitis or local hematoma ( due to blunt trauma) or might be small abscess ( resulted from thorn prick) . So I feel it would be better if you see general surgeon for examination and further help. They on examination may prescribe NSAIDS for pain and if needed may prescribe an antibiotic.

Meanwhile I would recommend you to wash it with cool water and use antiseptic soap. Tap it dry and apply antibacterial ointment like neosporin. See to it that you should not scratch it.

Hope this helps
Take care

Thank you for your kind reply. I am a big fan of letting my body heal itself. I am even reluctant to take Advil. It is only painful to the touch. I have used Neosporin on it though, after cleansing. Are there any downsides to letting nature take its course? Thank you Again. XXXXXXX
