Question: How common is it for someone from michigan to get hps from finding mice in their home & cleaning droppings ?

We had mice in our home we set traps and cleaned the poop with bleach and paper towels ... But i have been getting a little couch and feeling sick after but everyone around me has also been very sick with the flu ive felt light headed , sore back irritated tummy but thats about it and no fever .. But it scared me i could get sick from the mice .

I read your query and reviewed it with the health concerns you have.
HPS being very infrequent disease,though it might be common in your are,Get the treatment with Antivirals and Antibiotics and NSAIDS-like Motrin if you get flue like symptoms.
Don't get scared,which is the worst thing to happen to YOU.
Suggested CARE for yOu-
As you got the cough with sick feeling with light headedness,
I would suggest You as follows-
USE masks and gloves to prevent spread of virus.
Take plenty of fluids and be on liquid diet\ with fruit juices would recoup you fast.
Take Tylenol +Diclofenac to control Fibromyalgias accompanied with it.
Take Tab-Loratidine for antihistaminic actions to control histamine- complaints like running nose etc.
Take Tab Ribavirin for antiviral actions,though it is non-specific medicine.
Take Sequential Chest X-rays-as you have cough,with the advise of your physician.
ICU care if the lungs get heaviness by sequential X-rays Chest.
Prognosis is good if proper care is taken as above,with respiratory support care in ICU and before ICU.
-Preventive Care-
Rodent access needs to be controlled with Traps,
Removal of the rat excreta by gloves and not by brooms to avoid aerosol spread of the virus.
Bleaching the walls and rooms of the Mice found (dead)areas with Bleach aerosol sprays to kill the viruses and by use of detergents is possible.
Use masks and gloves -which would reduce viral transmission.
Don't use vacuum or brooms to clean the excreta of the rodents.
The rabit control by placing traps,sealing gaps in the walls,is a great prevention of spread of HPS-(Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome)

I went to an urgwnt care and he looked at my ears listened to my chest and told me to wait it out and gave me antibiotics and didnt think it was what it was but didnt say it couldnt be .. Im not sure if i should go to the er ? Im feeling better today not much of a big cough today . He says i looks and sound normal and no fever of any kind
