Question: For the past 2 or 3 months my stools have been like this they float 9/10 times and seems like a clear film over the toilet which is kinda hard to see some times I went doctors two months ago with heartburn and pain under left ribs and they gave me omeprazole which worked for the heartburn but not for the pain, I noticed though if I take multivitamin with probiotic my stools go normal until I stop taking them and go back like this what could this be is it anything to worry about?

Brief Answer:
Possible Diagnosis: Pancreatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank You for trusting HealthcareMagic

I have gone through your question and seen the report attached

Since you are complaining of floating stools, pain under left rib, heartburn, and your stool colors are slightly yellowish in the picture, I would recommend ruling out pancreatic problems like Pancreatitis.

Lack of pancreatic enzymes results in malabsorption of fat which can result in such stool characteristics.

Gall bladder problems causing obstruction to bile flow like gallstones can also cause similar stool changes, but the location of pain will be more commonly on the upper right abdomen.

Investigations including serum amylase, lipase, stool elastase levels, secretin stimulation test can assess pancreatic function. Imaging studies like CT scan may also be warranted depending on initial results.
Please follow up with a Primary care practitioner/ gastroenterologist for further evaluation.

Brief Answer:
Presence of fat in stool needs to be confirmed by a stool analysis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank You for following up,

Normal stools should sink 95% of the time. In the picture, the stool seems to be floating on the surface water, which is an indication of fat in the stool.

The picture is showing a slight yellowish tinge to your stool color.

However, the presence of fat in stool can only be absolutely confirmed by stool microscopic analysis. The stool will be checked for color, consistency, amount, shape, odor, mucus and presence of blood, fat, WBC etc.

Since you have been having symptoms for past 3 months, I strongly advise getting the necessary evaluation done.

Hope I was able to help you
Please address further questions/concerns,

Kind regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
