default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: for the past several hours I have been throwing up very dark brown coffee grind like mucus! I haven't eaten for a few days and have been abusing alcohol for quite some time now... Lambanog, beer and Rum! Finally the mucus is almost clear of the "coffee grind-like" appearance. I have very mild acid indigestion I got rid of the alcohol!!! Is there anything I can do for myself at home? I am XXXXXXX and I live in the Philippines! No Health Insurance and limited financial resources! I am 73 years old and would like to see my 74th birthday in November!!! Thank you..... Sincerely, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Please start eating and some medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
I respect your restrictions.
You definitely have acid reflux and probably Peptic ulcers which could be bleeding. You need an Upper GI Endoscopy to diagnose the same.
The treatment however is for you to avoid alcohol and smoke. Avoid any acidic foods and hot beverages. Please Take Tab Pantoprazole 40mg or Cap Omeprazole 20mg twice a day on empty stomach. Don't stay empty stomach for long periods. Have cooling meals like bread, biscuits and cool milk. These measures should get your problems resolved.
Take care and do let me know if there are any queries on this subject.
