Suggest Treatment For Hematoma In Thigh

Question: Age 61, 5 ft 8 in tall, 190 lbs. level 3 hypertension controlled by cardiologist. Full knee replacement on right knee in 2012. Fell on my bike and when over the front. Handle left many bruises on my right leg. Bruises gone, but now had large horizontal lump on right thigh that looks like a dent on my thigh. One month now and seems to be aggravating bursitis in right hip and sometimes pain shoots from Hope to ankle. Lump on thigh feels like a burn when I press on it. Worried about blood clot or problem with circulation.

Hello,
I have studied your case. I can assure you that it is not blood clot and you should not be worried about any circulation problem.It is most probably collection of blood in thigh. It is called hematoma. For confirmation you can get ultrasound of the thigh.
More often then not these hematoma dissolve wirh in few months but some time they may need aspiration through needle and antibiotics to take care of infection.
I would suggest you to go to doctor and get ultrasound. Your doctor can trear this hematoma by needle aspiration. You can take Etorixoxib tablet for pain relief. I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

Should I go to a vascular surgeon or an orthopedist? Maybe going to my cardiologist would be preferable. Not sure which doctor to go to to get an ultrasound

One last question. Is there a possibility it could be a soft tissue sarcoma? It did occur after the bike fall but I know sometimes when a diagnosis is of a hematoma, it could also have the chance of being a sarcoma

Hello,
Soft tissue sarcoma is pain less and there is no history of trauma. sarcoma are usually very rapid growingI would suggest you to get ultrasound which will tell you what is it . But on the basis of my experience it is not a sarcoma but a hematoma.
