Posted on Tue, 5 Sep 2017
Question: I have had some hemorrhoid issues on and off for 1 year. Very small. Today I can feel near the exit a 1/4 by 1/2 inch lump. Can preparation H 4 times a day reduce this or is it to big at this point. Two days ago this was a very small bump. I have not had any difficulty with bowel movements so not sure what happened to enlarge this.

Brief Answer:
May not help

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
At this point,it seems like there is grade IV hemorrhoids and this is not easily treated with ointment. Preparation H will reduce symptoms such as pain or bleeding, but it will not cure hemorrhoids. sometimes hemorrhoids enlarge even without risk factors such as hard stool or straining which may be your case. if there is no pain or bleeding then I don't think that some urgent therapy is required but the best and permanent treatment would be surgical excision or gummy ligatures application.Wish you good health. Regards
