How To Stop Rectal Bleeding With History Of Ulcerative Colitis?

I have a history of UC and have been having severe abdominal cramps for the past few weeks. I assumed it was a UC flare up and then the rectal bleeding started 3 days ago and isn t stopping. The first time I had it I was NOT having a BM so there was no straining or pushing to irritate my hemorrhoids. I have stomach cramps and then blood drips into the toilet. Yesterday and today there has been a significant amount of blood in the toilet and on the tissue. I went to ER as my GI advised and they said it was internal hemorrhoid. But I dont understand why the bleeding is still coming on when I am not straining at all or why I am cramping up.

Hello,

You have history of ulcerative colitis and now you are experiencing, pain and rectal bleeding. To reduce it take oral pain relievers (Acetaminophen or Combiflam), one SOS when required. Soak in Sitz bath at least two times a day, apply creams or pads containing lidocaine (numbing agent) and hydrocortisone for relieve. (toplap gel, himcolin ointment, etc). To reduce bleeding stop heavy exercises, sitting for long periods, do not strain in the toilet, take whole grains, veggies and fruits.

You are suggested to get clinically examined for colon cancer and colorectal cancer may also manifest such symptoms. Get colon cancer screening testing (gFOBT and FIT) done to be on the safer side. You should also get stool tests, blood tests, X-ray, CT, MRI done. Get treated at the earliest. If cancer is detected you will need chemotherapy, radiation or surgery depending upon the stage of the cancer. Cancer detected at the early stage can be cured.
