Detailed Answer:
Hello,
tests can be interpreted in the clinical context only. Otherwise only assumptions can be made. So please clarify the following:
- had you been vaccinated for hepatitis B? When?
- have you ever got acute hepatitis B (jaundice, right quadrant pain, fever, brown urine, no appetite, etc) ? When?
- do you use illicit drugs? Do you share needles if you do?
- have you ever had any blood transfusions?
- finally, have you ever had unprotected sex with partners of unknown hepatitis status?
A positive HBsAg without history of hepatitis can be even false positive. If you did have clinical syndrome then it can be chronic hepatitis because that's when HBsAg remains positive but the rest of the markers may become negative. Having negative antibodies is a little strange though.
Please upload all the test reports and answer the clinical questions to help me give you a better interpretation of your situation.
Kind Regards!
not enough information still
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional information but it's not what I asked for. I asked for all the reports and some clinical data. Anyway, I'll give you an answer based on what you've told me so far.
A positive HBsAg without positive antiHBc may mean any of the following:
- false positive HBsAg (no sign of hepatitis)
- false negative AntiHBc (hepatitis present but not completely evident in serologic testing
- wild type hepatitis virus with altered genetic content resulting in variable serologic results
- immune deficiency resulting in lack of responsiveness to HBcAg due to HIV coinfection, cancer, lymphomas, etc
You have to confirm the serologic results, do the HBV-DNA test and if hepatitis is confirmed, your doctor has to find out which of the aforementioned conditions fits your case. The most likely scenario is chronic hepatitis.
I hope it helps!
Happy new year!
