Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I've had high blood pressure for years. The last couple of weeks my blood pressure has been around 115/52. I stopped taking my medication and yet my blood pressure is still low. I'm a 41 year old female with no other issues and not taking any other medications. I feel tired and have headaches frequent. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
How long have you had headaches?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these frequent headaches that you have reported. Considering all the information you have provided, there is no real concerning symptom that puts your life at risk or suggests that there is something concerning going at this time that we should get panicked about. However, I will like to know more about these headaches:

1. For how long have you had this and at what times of the day do you have it? How many times do you get headaches in a week? How bad are these headaches? Is it the whole head?

2. Besides fatigue, do you have any other symptom like stuffy nose, blur vision, tearing?

Unless you should report something more concerning at this time, I think you shouldn't panic about this. I will recommend healthy diet, eat enough fruits, vegetables and drink enough water. Exercise at least 3 times a week and get enough rest. If these measures fail to help, then we would want to dig further to obtain more information.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Headaches have been everyday. Mostly feels like pressure with the exception of every now and then getting sharp pains on my left temple that last only a few seconds. Should I stay off my blood pressure medication and just monitor it? Thanks so much for your time .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your blood pressure is low enough not to warrant medications. If you have been off medications for long, then I will say stay off and monitor. I will like that you report values over the next three days to me for analysis of trend and make a definite decision on this.

Headaches that start in the temple and last a few seconds and several times in a day may be suggest trigerminal neuralgia. This may be provoked by mild activities like shaving, combing the hair, touch, etc. If this is the case, I will suggest a doctor's consultation for confirmation and treatment.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
