![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hello my name is XXXX and I'm 43 yrs old. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at the beginning of the year. I've been checking my sugar level in the morning for the past two weeks before breakfast and its reads 245-260. Currently I am not taking any medications for it but I scheduled a apt with my PCP in a week from today. my question is should I just go to an urgent care or am I ok to wait til the apt?
Brief Answer:
I wouldn't recommend to wait that long.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking HCM!
The blood sugar 250 mg/dl fasting is considered high. After eating it may reach 300-400 mg/dl.
I wouldn't recommend to stay for 1 weak with these sugar levels.
If you know the cause of the raise in blood sugar (if you are eating too much, you have a urinary infection, if you have stopped physical activity etc) then try to improve it and continue to check the blood sugar. If it improves than you can wait for another weak. If you can not find any reason for raising the blood sugar then I wouldn't recommend to wait that long.
Hope I have been helpful. Feel free to ask further
Kind Regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

I stopped exercising and have been eating carbs. so I will start going back to the gym by tomorrow. How much time or days should I wait to see if my sugar levels improve. should I work out during this weekend and if no improvement go to see a dr?
Brief Answer:
Yes, try for some days.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,
Usually when you are diagnosed with Diabetes and are overweight, diet and physical activity is recommended for a period of three months, then a HbA1c level is cheap to see the effect. If it persists high you should start tablets.
In your case, you are diagnosed almost a year ago and are not taking oral tablets, so when was the last time, you've checked the HbA1c ?
If you are still overweight and are not willing to follow a strict diet than do not wait too long but start treatment.
If you think that you have enough will to control the blood sugar with lifestyle changes than try for this week and monitor the blood sugar closely.
I would also recommend to check the lipids, blood pressure and do a cardiac check up once a year.
Wish you good health!
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
