Suggest Treatment For High Cholesterol

Question: hello, I am a 39 year old caucasian female who is very yellow around the mouth and chin area. My recent bloodwork suggests everything is normal (i.e. thyroid, blood counts and bilirubin levels) cholesterol was a tad high, not very much, but I keep thinking perhaps this has something to do with the liver? am I correct? should I revisit my GP and get a comprehensive liver function test? I have had a high rt3 and low t3 in the past but that seems to be corrected now, so don't know if thyroid may still be a possible factor? Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
High cholesterol is not caused by the liver. It is caused by diet!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these increased rates and al the inconveniences this has caused you. High cholesterol comes from bad fats. It is not caused by a liver problem. What was the exact value?

High cholesterol is initially managed by eating healthy, exercising often and staying active. Also, increased fruits and vegetables consumption would greatly help. If this fails after 3months, then we would get you on medications to reduce this. Other risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, smoking, etc. also need to be addressed fully if you do suffer from any of these conditions.

Thyroid is not a possible cause and more so when you have a clean laboratory report. The most common cause is poor diet.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello, thank you for responding. However I am left rather confused...I am 5 foot 5 and weigh 50kgs with a fat % of 19. I eat loads of veggies and 2-3 pieces of fruit daily, red meat (grass fed usually) x1-2 per week along with eggs, nuts, and legumes. I do not tolerate wheat or dairy at all, hence they do not form part of my diet. I do weight training 3-5 times per week, so cannot understand what is causing my intensely yellow mouth area. everyone is noticing, I can't hide it any longer. My recent lab results for my cholesterol are as follows:
total cholesterol: 4.7 mmol/L
HDL cholesterol: 1.8 mmol/L
LDL cholesterol: 2.7 mmol/L
Triglyceride: 0.5 mmol/L
ldl/hdl ratio: 1.5
chol/hdl ratio: 2.6

since a poor diet is unlikely to be the cause in my case, can you suggest what else may be causing this facial discolouration? Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can I get a photo of your face?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up information.

I am unsure of what he exact cause of discoloration at this time is. It would be rare to observe localized discoloration of the face. If this were intermittent, then we might have been looking at hormonal changes. Did your doctor occur with you on the fact that you have facial discoloration?

Finally, I will like to have an image for review. Click on the link to upload a file and follow through with the instructions to get one uploaded to me. I would comment and provide more insights as soon as it comes in.

Until then, I wish you well.

hello, I have uploaded a photo to my profile, hopefully it came through ok. I had another look at it and with the lighting in the house, I look fairly normal, but I can assure you this is not the case. I am so yellow around this area I have photographed, would this be indicative of someone with a liver issue? Thank you.
