Suggest Treatment For High Levels Of Total IgE Reading
IgE 2920 IU/ml is too high.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
Your Total IgE level is too high.
If total IgE level exceeding 150 to 300 IU/mL is highly suggestive of allergy.
Total IgE may also be raised in parasitic infections, auto immune diseases, cigarette smokers, with alcohol consumption and in certain cancers like myeloma.
It is not 100% specific to allergy.
This test is highly sensitive but not specific so you need other tests to identify the cause.
It is very important to know your complete medical history, actual symptoms,to perform a physical examination and allergy tests like skin allergy tests.
You may need to consult a allergist doctor or dermatologist and get examined thoroughly for proper diagnosis first.
IgE mediated multiple myeloma is diagnosed with some blood tests like serum protein electrophoresis, serum free kappa/lambda light chain assay with bone marrow examination, urine protein electrophoresis and X-rays of commonly involved bones.
You should not bother about myeloma rather you consult allergist for further evaluation.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.
Thanks and Regards,
Dr.Sandip Kabra
Important thing is to detect the underlying cause of raised IgE levels.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for follow-up query.
Serum total IgE is a helpful or supportive investigation for some diseases, but it alone does not diagnose or rule out any condition or disease.
Serum Total IgE 2920 IU/ml is considered a high value.
The most common causes when it is elevated are allergic conditions like allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic respiratory aspergillosis, auto immune diseases, cigarette smokers, with alcohol consumption and in certain cancers like myeloma etc.
However, it is not only associated with allergic causes. It can also be elevated in some intestinal worms infections or parasitic infections or some rare immune disorders etc.
At this point I would suggest you to not to concentrate on IgE levels itself. It is important to know the underlying cause of raised IgE levels.
Appropriate management of the cause is the only important treatment.
Regarding complications, they are mostly due to the diseases themselves. They are mostly not related to IgE levels.
If you are having allergies, I would suggest to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will advise you allergy testing and then suggest appropriate management and dietary factors which you must avoid.
Thanks and Regards,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
As I said earlier, it is important to detect the underlying cause first. There is no strict restrictions of any food, soft drink or diet unless it is causing some allergic or hypersensitivity reactions. You must avoid alcohol and smoking if it is there because they might cause hyper response or hypersensitivity.
Usually, exercises or swimming or karate do not cause any problem.
You must consult immunologist or allergist for further advise and management.
Thanks.
