Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.
I am glad that your husband has a healthy BMI(body mass index).Normal range of blood pressure is 120 to 140 (systolic-upper value) & 80 to 90(diastolic-lower value).Above these limits individuals are said to have high pressures.Your husband is having a higher systolic value(170) which has to be treated.
I would like to know some information to help you better.
Is he a known hypertensive?
Does he drink, smoke?
Is he taking any medication?
What is his nature of job?
Is there a history of hypertension in his family?
Awaiting for your reply.

In answer to your queries
His BP was about the same the last time he was tested about 18months ago(last Drs visit) .
He does not drink or smoke.
Does not take any medications.
He is retired but helps on the farm, light to moderate physical work.
I am not aware of his family having hypertension problems.
He seldom complains of headaches. Maybe once or twice a year.
Hoping this helps.

Brief Answer:
Lifestyle modification+Anti-hypertensive therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Thanks for writing back.
Glad to know that your husband has a healthy lifestyle. I would advise you to do renal function tests (blood urea and serum creatinine). Start on anti-hypertensive medication, and monitor his blood pressure after one week.
Also advice to do yoga, meditation and brisk walking for half an hour/day which shall reduce his blood pressures. Minimize intake of salt (not more than 2.5g/day).
Hope these few tips shall help him keep his blood pressures at bay.
All the best.
