Suggest Treatment For Hookworm Infection
Please upload a photo and provide some information
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question.
I will need some more information and a photo in order to have a better idea of your problem and so I can answer accurately.
The maggots can be in different types, so if you have a photo of your stool with them, would help me know for sure how they are treated. Describe them please if you don't have a photo.
Also a photo of your skin would help.
Usually maggots are taken by the water or people who already have them. If you have traveled recently, or met someone who has traveled, if you work in a public place, or drank tap water, ect. To find how you took the infection, is important because those people need to be treated too. And you family need to be treated and tested too.
And, do not worry because generally they are treatable.
Looking forward to your follow up question.
Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
Possible Hookworm infection or Oxiuriasis (Enterobius vermicularis)
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXXXXX V. Brown,
Please explore this web-page and you'll find a spot as the 'Reports section' where you can upload/attach the photos directly against your question.
From your description I am able to tell that the infection you have is either a hookworm infection or a oxiuriasis. Both have similar worms as you described and also cause skin problems. The treatment is also the same.
I would recommend that you take Albendazole 400mg, single dose and also if not completely better, then repeat the dose after 3 weeks (prescription may be required from your local physician).
But, even if you do not have insurance, in every place you go, they would immediately do a stool for ova and parasite and give this treatment.
Remember that everyone in your family needs to be treated as well.
Your skin will be well soon, but if not, then you may need a visit with a Dermatologist at your place, because the spread infections need close follow-up.
I hope this helps to reassure you a bit.
Regards,
Dr. Papaqako.
