Question : I have just found out i am 5 weeks pregnant. I have not been to the doctors yet. I am worried as i have an underactive thyroid i am currently taking 100 do i need to put my dose up ? i have read not having enough thyroid hormone can cause problems

hypothyroid is very commonly seen in pregnant. thyroxin is a safe drug in pregnancy. if well controlled thyroid disease has no effect on fetus. pl check your thyroid function and see your obstetrician. continue medication. start taking folic acid 1 tab daily 5 mg . best wishes

Could it already be harming the fetus if i need a higher dose due to pregnancy

pl trust that thyroxine is very safe even at higher doses. as of now don't change your dose. do a thyroid function test to know if a change is required. this can be safely taken through out pregnancy without any fear for the baby
