Suggest Treatment For Increasing Rashes And Spots On Stomach

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: Hello,
My 2.5-year-old son broke out in this rash on his stomach--it started with a couple spots yesterday morning and now there are about 10. Yesterday we were at the pool for several hours and it did seem worse after that. Today he was at preschool for several hours and when I picked him up, there were even more spots. He has not been itching them that I can tell and they don't seem to bother him at all. Any idea what this is?

The spots seem to be increasing.

Brief Answer:
urticaria v/s skin infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There could be a number of causes for his complaint. Most common include Urticaria which can be in response to multiple causes like insect bite, dust, etc. Other cause includes infection like measles. I would suggest you to once visit hospital and get an appointment for a "Consultant Dermatologist". He will examine him and the rash. In case of urticaria, antihistamine suspension (diphenhydramine/cetirizine) is given and recovery occurs in few days.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Could this be Roseola or Fifth Disease? He doesn't currently have a fever but had one on and off the past few weeks. I took him to the doctor a week ago (because of the fever) and they swabbed his throat for strep, but it came back negative. The doctor said it was just a virus, but that was before this rash broke out.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for the followup query.

Roseola usually presents with persistent high grade fever. As there is no fever at this moment so chances are unlikely for it and more in favor or urticaria. As mentioned earlier, a visit with a Consultant Dermatologist will help you in getting the prescription according to weight of the child for antihistamine and he will show improvement.

Thank You
