Suggest Treatment For Infected Skin Abscess On The Legs
Drainage
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Abscess are deep bacterial infections.
In simple terms bacteria infect our body and destroys tissue.
This destroyed tissue forms pus and a collection of pus anywhere in body is called as abscess.
Treatment is with antibiotics but the choice of antibiotics should be based on culture and sensitivity tests.
Abscess must be drained and pus should be subjected to tests to find out which bacteria is causing it and to which antibiotic the bacteria is sensitive.
I usually prescribe a combination of amoxicillin and cavulinic acid for a week.
This gives good response.
You can try this in consultation of your doctor however drainage is must if abscess is large.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you.
Did you mean calvulanic acid or cavulinic acid?
Also can I get this from any medical store. If yes what should I ask for?
