Question: Hi, unfortunately this evening a fairly heavy lamp fell on my 1 year old son's head and left about an inch long mark on his forehead. It's red and when I gently touch it it feels like slight a dent. I wasn't there when it happened but my husband claims he didn't fall unconscious and was crying after it happened straight away. He went to bed ok and was behaving normal but I worry wether we should take him to ER to be checked over? Thank you...

Brief Answer:
better to get the child evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

The head injury in an infant should be evaluated by a physician even in the absence of unconciousness, vomiting, altered sensorium or abnormal movement. Thought injuries to skull bone is common in infants, since you notice a dent, I would want the child to be evaluated by a physician. A depressed skull fracture should be ruled out. Although the fracture of skull bone does not need any specific management, it should be ruled out by clinical examination - So that it can be taken care off.

In short, I wouldn't be overly worried about this state. However I will urge you to take him to a physician and evaluate.

I would be glad to answer if you have any further query.
Regards
