Question: What is the most effective treatment for insomnia?? I have finally gotten a very heavy, long, clotting period relatively under control (still bleeding lightly although am still anxious that it is going to return cuz this has happened before) thanks I think in part to one of your doctors recommendation of inserting progesterone cream vaginally. The problem is that I have tried other herbal remedies too and I think my hormones are now so out of whack that I cant sleep. I can not get into the doctor until XXXXXXX 5 due to change in insurance issues. I have stopped everything except the cream and a multivitamin and iron supplement. Please help, i cant go sleepless for another two weeks and can not afford an er visit!!

Brief Answer:
it is multifaceted

Detailed Answer:
Hi, the treatment for insomnia is multifaceted
1. Do some physical work that tires up your body during the day but avoid it towards late evenings.
2. Avoid drinking tea coffee or other cocoa products towards late evening.
3. Avoid sleeping in the day especially after noon.
4. Put on some soft light music of your choice when you retire to bed at night/ read a book before you sleep.
5. Try meditation.
6. If none of these work you may go ahead and take medical help with medication like clonezepam 0.5 mg, or amitryptilline 10 mg at night time. But be aware that these drugs are prohibited drugs and shall be available only on your GP s prescription at the least and have their list of side effects and come with a list of precautions as do not drive or use heavy machines for instance.

I have been trying all of those things, thanks (except the prrescription drugs) Could the progrsterone cream the other doctor recommended be making the insomnia worse?? I hate to stop taking it because it does seem to be slowing down the vaginal bleeding, but as soon as I seem to be due another dose the blood clots start up again. I know I should get to the doctor, but I really cant afford it until my new insurance kicks in XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
yes it can

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear progesterones cream may cause insomnia if used frequently or large dose. To counter this you may need the medication. If you can procure the ones I suggested, use any one of them and it shall help you counter the side effects of insomnia.

You can try the low cost community clinics nearby. They might prescribe limited number of medicines that could help you until the insurances kicks in.
