Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Cough And Itching Sensation In Lower Throat

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: Hi there -

I've been experiencing an intermittent cough over the last two weeks. It doesn't really hurt, but it's persistent and doesn't seem to be going away.

There is maybe a slight itch in my lower throat and I have to spit out a bit of phlem build up every once in awhile, but no sensation in my chest.

Any thoughts on how to move forward to see what's going on?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Upper respiratory tract infection is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more.
So take antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Do warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.
Start broad spectrum antibiotic like levofloxacin or azithromycin.
Avoid oily and spicy food. Avoid hard to chew food.
Don't worry, with all these you will mostly improve in 1 week.
If you are still not improving after 1 week than get done chest x ray to rule out lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI).
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
