Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Fever, Headaches, Body Aches, Nasal Congestion And Nausea

Question: I have intermittent low-grade fevers (~100 -- my normal temp is 97.8). They occur on average once a month. This been going on for more than a year. I am 74, so it is not the female monthly issue. When the fevers occur, they last about 12 hours, and then I'm weak but fine. Concurrent with the fevers are the expected headaches and body aches, and also nasal congestion and nausea. I had a meningioma removed more than five years ago and am on anti-seizure meds (at my own choice now because to stop would mean I couldn't drive for 6 months). I'm at a loss to know where to look for an explanation for these recurring fevers.

Brief Answer:
Appears you have recurrent acute episodes of rhinitis!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed your information fully. This is not typically fever as the temperature isn't above the generally accepted threshold. However, nasal congestion causes an inflammatory response that can explain this increased in temperature. This is therefore a monthly acute allergy episodes. The exact cause is not clear to me but keep a record of when this occurs to see if they are in anyway related with some specific activities or products or weather changes.

Nothing suggests that this related to your past meningioma. Do not nurse any further fears in this regard. I will also like that you add benadryl 25mg during these episodes of nasal congestion as this will help with possible allergies.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
