Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Stomach Pain In A Child

Question: My 8 years old daughter has in the last few days tummy pain, that comes and go. She is really bad eater and i am afraid it could be gastric pain. She is 21 kilograms on 124 cm high.
Now I feed her every few hours and make sure she really eats, however it is really time taking and slow process. The pain is high up, and it is not strong pain. She complained she got feeling she wants to throw up, for the first two days. Now is day four and she feels better, but still some pain comes and goes. When she drinks water she says the pain disappears.
She looks vivid.
Is it possible to be a flu as lately is very hot and possibly she stayed on over chilled air conditioned room or car? What it could be?

Brief Answer:
could be gastritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your history and description it looks like your child has probably acid gastritis. The trigger for that could be a viral bug. Flu is present through out the year nowadays.
I usually prescribe pantoprazole around 20 mg once daily before breakfast for a week to see if that helps.
Avoid spicy and oily foods that increase acidity.
Let her eat frequently say 5 to 6 times a day in small quantities
If pain does not settle down in a few days, consult your pediatrician.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.
