Laryno-pharyngeal reflux/sinusitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query.
Irritation in the throat could be due to various reasons. To name a few:
1. Recurrent sinusitis
2. Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux secondary to acid reflux disease
3. Excessive intake of antihistamines and decongestants, etc.
According to your description, I do feel, you are suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) also known as silent reflux. LPR happens due to regurgitation of the acid from stomach into the throat.
Due to constant reflux of the acid from stomach into the throat, the mucosa of the throat gets inflamed, giving rise to foreign body sensation in the throat.
As your doctor has already performed laryngeal examination and made the diagnosis, it would be better to start with medications directed at reducing the symptoms.
My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Continue esomeprazole and a prokinetic such as domperidone or metachlopramide for at least 3-4 months.
3. Request your doctor to put you on anxiolytics such as alprazolam for few weeks. You will definitely feel better.
4. Do steam inhalation.
5. Use saline nasal spray to clear any nasal block.
6. Avoid coffee/tea/spicy food/fizzy drinks/chilled food & beverages/smoking if any.
Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing back.
Initially, you will have to take the medicines for at least 3-4 months before you notice any improvement. Meanwhile, would require dietary and lifestyle modifications.
The medicines should never be stopped abruptly. If you do so, all your symptoms will recur.
Hope this clears your doubts.
