Suggest Treatment For Itching On The Scalp
Question: I am experiencing itching on/off for more than a month now. No specific "one" area; sometimes my scalp, then arms, then face - even while taking a shower, it's as if the water hitting my skin makes me itch. Wet hair touching my face once out of the shower is super itchy. I have never been diagnosed with allergies in the past. I am wondering if this could be a sign of more serious concerns, from diabetes to ?????

(1) I have been taking a med for thyroid and cholesterol for some time ... itching didn't begin until recently.
(2) itching comes on daytime and/or night time. I do not have any rashes nor hives.
No doubt, a liver function or renal function test should be done. However, I am currently unemployed and I have no health insurance as of this month. Can't continue with Obamacare without showing an income of some source. Social services .. yea right. One is lucky to get an appt. with anyone in less than 7 months.

Brief Answer:
Antihistaminic can be taken
Detailed Answer:
Dear peggie
Itching is the most common symptom in Dermatology and full work and examination is needed to reach over the diagnosis and hence treatment.
Both thyroid disorder and thyroid medication can cause itching.
Deranged liver and renal function test can cause itching.
Even increase in body temperature can cause itching in CHOLINERGIC URTICARIA and decrease in temperature can cause itching in COLD URTICARIA, so what I want to say that for this non specific symptoms and I usually prefer to prescribe my patients LEVOCETRIZINE MONTELUKAST COMBINATION twice daily, alternatively FEXOFENADINE 180mg can also be taken very safely..
No matter what the cause of itching but these are the first line medications and very safe to use.
One can also use CALAMINE LOTION to prevent itch,
also please consult your physician for management of Thyroid disorder as you may have raised TSH even on medication so dose monitoring is very necessary.
Hope it helps
