Suggest Treatment For Itchy And Red Bruises On The Hand Of A Child

Molluscum contagiosum to be ruled out
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
The rash seems to related to a viral Infection called "molluscum contagiosum ". This is caused by the virus of the same name.
These are harmless and will go away on their in majority of the cases within 3 months. It may take upto 4yrs in certain cases as old bumps disappear and new ones appear.
I recommend :
-a physician consult or dermatologist consult to confirm diagnosis
-keep the area clean and dry.
-avoid itching by using cool packs over the area & lactocalamine lotion.
-avoid sharing towels or other personal objects as this is contagious.
-it can spread to other parts of her body so she shouldn't touch that area and then touch some other part without washing hands.
- if it is bothersome see a dermatologist to consider treatment options. Removal of the central area to promote healing (to be done by a dermatologist). This is avoided if possible as skin may scar
-if your daughter has any other medical concerns, please inform her doctor to check if it will interfere with the healing process.
-if she participates in sports that involve body contact, keep the affected area wrapped in water tight dressing or cloth.
Apply ice or cool packs frequently to prevent itching.
Gentle Compression for a few minutes with a metal or glass cup can also help relieve the itch. Make sure to sterilize any object that comes in contact with the rash
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Hope she feels better soon.
Wish you all good health
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
