Brief Answer:
Fungal Infection of Groins
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have also looked at the picture.
I can see in the picture that there is a scaly, annular lesion which shows central clearing and peripheral extension.
The peripheral part/margin of the lesion is red and raised.
This type of presentation is suggestive Fungal Infection/Tinea.
Itching is usually a prominent feature in fungal infections. Groin folds and other folds like axilla are prone to fungal infections because they trap moisture/sweat and are prone to fungal infections specially in hot and humid weather of summer; sweat, heat and humidity together favouring the growth of the fungus.
You may try an OTC antifungal cream e.g 1% clotrimazole cream, twice daily for 4 weeks.
Topical antifungals alone may be not be completely effective, since this seems to be an extensive lesion; therefore if I was the treating doctor I would have also started you on oral antifungals in addition to the topical cream.
Oral antifungals e.g either fluconazole, terbinafine or itraconazole would be rapidly effective in cases such as this.
However, oral antifungals are prescription drugs and therefore it is mandatory to get a prescription from a doctor.
An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
You may ask for a prescription for an oral antifungal from a nearby doctor.
Kindly get back to me for any clarifications
