Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes Near The Shoulder Blades

Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2017
Question: Hi. My Dad is 79-years-old and suffers from Parkinson's Disease and deep vein thrombosis among other maladies. About 2 weeks ago, my Mom, who dries him off and dresses him after he showers, notice two rounded areas of irritation that appeared in the shoulder blade area on his back on both the right and left side. The spots are about 1.5 inches in circumference. They do not itch but are irritations and itch occasionally. They have developed a crusty feeling to touch - especially about the outside edges. Do you have any impressions of what this might be and what the best course of action would be to take. We are unsure to apply an antibiotic cream or possibly just a lotion with vitamin E. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
Seems to be eczematous rash, cortisone cream & moisturizing lotion

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being at HealthcareMagic,

I have gone through your complaints as well as reviewed the attached photographs.

It seems to be a patch of eczematous rash.

If I're his treating doctor I would recommend you to apply topical steroid like cortisone cream on the affected areas twice daily along with a frequent and liberal application of a moisturizing lotion containing white soft paraffin on the entire back 2-3 times in a day.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
Dr Asmeet
