Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On Face And Torso Along With Fever

Question: My grandson woke with a slight fever today (he's diabetic 1) and after a couple of hours developed a sunburn like rash on his cheeks, neck and torso, which he says itches somewhat. Other than insulin for his condition, he's had no medication. Last night we went out to eat and my wife had a food poisoning reaction after eating lobster and chicken wings, and she had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital for emergency treatment. Her initial symptoms were a sudden redness on her face and torso, and a growing sensation of suffocation. The medical personnel at the clinic she was taken to, on examining, immediately called 911 for her to be taken to the hospital. A couple of shots of antihistamine stabilized her, and she was sent home after three hours. I'm not sure our grandson's current condition is related. He did not eat lobster, but did have a few chicken wings. Any thoughts on what his sudden itchy redness is due to?

Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction or infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

It appears to be a mild allergic reaction or a viral infection. However, the first thing to look out for in a type 1 diabetic should be the blood sugar level as in infections the demand for insulin can increase and a missed dose can land the person into DKA and get him severely dehydrated. Keep him well hydrated and check the blood sugar. Anti histamine was correctly given though a general examination would be required to look for any focus of infection and treat it accordingly as there is associated fever. In the meanwhile cold sponging and paracetamol or acetaminophen can be given to lower the temperature.
