Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On The Buttocks

Question: Hi- It's embarrassing, but I had an itch for a few days at the top of my buttocks (crack) which I only saw to be red and thought an irritation. I later found it to be a tick, a dog tick I believe. I scratch yesterday AM as I was changing in the restroom and felt something which I scratched off thinking it was a spider. The insect landed on the toilet seat and I immediately saw it was a tick. In not the best of mindset, I flicked it (I know- not smart). I have since sprayed the house. I am sure it was a tick and leaning towards a dog tick (vs deer tick)> Both are common in my area. I was seen by urgent care as my MD couldn't immediately get me in and thought I should be seen. They cleaned the area, checked for any remainder of the bug in me, and prescribed 1 week of Doxy.

My concern is regarding the 1 week duration. For one, I have CIDP. I am so nervous about another autoimmune issue or a disease. I have a friend who was stricked with Lyme and her daughter who has communicated to me that the bacteria has a long life cycle and 30 days is required. My neurologist for CIDP said at least 14-21 days and the CDC seems to indicate 14. I have asked my MD to review whether we should extend passed the 7 day protocol which urgent care prescribed and am awaiting feedback, but I would like another opinion. I know they carry a lot of diseases & bacteria.

There was a rash and the tick was affixed for at least 2 days and not properly removed (I have no idea if anything happened when I scratched if off)- fortunately, the head was still intact to the bug.

Thank you for your input.

Brief Answer:
one week only

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

I have read carefully the history.

Doxycycline is an antibiotic with wide spectrum of antibacterial effect. It should be prescribed in oral intake twice per day.

We usually recommend it from one week to up to 14 days (depending on the case)

In your situation,in my opinion and if i were your doctor i would prescribe it for one week too.

This effect of this treatment continues for more than a week even if you have stopped it .

It is slowly excreted from the organism that is why we prefer one week.

In severe inflammation yes we prescribe it for 2-3 weeks. But this is not for sure your case.

So i would recommend you to take it for one week.

I wish a good recovery for you

Regards
